1926 General Strike - Iron Ore Miners
« on: Tuesday 04 October 11 13:54 BST (UK) »
Hi

As part of my degree course I have to write a biography of my grandad Thomas Henry Harrison 1905-1966.  He was born at Harrington and was a red man before he came down to Leicester in 1935.

I know he worked at Florence Mine but he may also have worked at others in the Egremont area.  He was a strong union man and so would have probably, like everyone else in the area been affected by the strike.

If anyone has any information re the strike, unions involved, how long they stayed out in Cumberland etc etc in fact any info,  I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

Regards

I expect you know that Florence Mine museum closed a few years sgo http://www.visitegremont.co.uk/visitors/florencemine.asp but the chap named on that page, Dave Banks, is still involved in West Cumbrian history.  If you cannot find an e-mail address for him online, he is certainly on Facebook.

Perhaps Tom Duffy could help http://www.cleatormoorblog.co.uk/
