Lewis BRAGANZA
« on: Saturday 08 October 11 06:47 BST (UK) »

Hi

I am doing some research on soldiers in the Great War and am having trouble with Lewis Braganza or Louis. He died in 1916 while a prisoner of war.

Thank you for your help.

Hi  McG

His name is on CWGC site, and his military record is in the Australian Archives to be viewed (as Cass points out)   - and I imagine you must have seen these?

What is it you are having trouble with exactly - lest we spend time searching and reporting  what you already know!

Cheers

His birth is registered as BREGENZE and siblings as BREGENZER.  Most Trove newspaper references seem to be as BREGENZER.

Thank you

Yes I have already seen his record and have found his AWM file.

Debra you have found what I was looking for , his birth. Have searched Trove and found little on Louis or his mother Christina.

Am tying to work up a picture of who he was.

Again many thanks

Hi Gerry and Cando

Thanks for the information. Strangely the AIf Project has Lewis' occupation as Freezer .

Where was he living before 1913?

Many thanks, I have found an uncle to Louis on AWM site http://cas.awm.gov.au/photograph/DA09106

McG

His Uncle, Ernest Raymond BREGENZER from Victoria also served in the Great War as well as South Africa, he was killed in action 18th August 1918 and had received the DCM earlier that year.
