When you register, you have to tell them what you want to go and look at, you shouldn't be able to wander around willy-nilly as you can do at a 'normal' library.

if you go and register, you need to compile a list along the lines of

I want to look at the GRO birth, marriage and death fiche and then I need to consult the electoral registers from 1985 and 1986 and then look for records in the India Office collection.

It was a few weeks ago when all the new uni students were signing up to get in.
