Re 'broper'.

The fourth character is not a 'p', but a thorn, in this case like a 'y' with a straight tail.
Pronounced as 'th'.

Apologies if you were already aware of this, I wasn't sure.

vv.

Hi Grantley,

There is a Silverton about 30 miles from Ilminster, and about 6 miles North of Exeter.

There is a local history society there which can be contacted on their website at

www.silvertonlocalhistory.co.uk/contactus.html

They may have knowledge of the chalice, or be interested in your information.

Just a thought

Roger

Thankyou vv & Roger.

I hadn’t considered the pronunciation of “Sizemore”, even though I had agonised over “Guymor”. There are not many of either, appearing in Google searches.

I will contact the Silverton Society.

I can’t recall that I knew about thorn being represented by a “p”, even though I know that I have previously fully explored the thorn as in “yt”. I had already got my mind around the “p” & the ‘th’ equivalent pronunciation for this document. Your reply has now supported my assuption that the following word was “thereto”.

Regards
Grantley

Great lead Roger,

John Suyffmore was rector of St Mary's Church in Silverton between 1445 & 1479.

Grantley
