George William GREENO B Jan 1869 - lost in census
« on: Tuesday 11 October 11 16:53 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I am stuck!
I have the above man who was born in Bethnal Green, Middlesex Jan 1869then nothing until he pops up in 1890 at Torpoint, Cornwall where he married Mary Roberts Reg Q1 v5b p455 Plymouth.

Can't find him in any census until 1911 by which time he is still living in the South West with Mary and 6 children all of whom were born down there as well.

In 1911 his occupation is Retired Navy keeper of Register so he was almost certainly at sea for some of his life and perhaps took his wife with him on occasion. But I can't see him in 1871 onwards - is it me?????

I wonder if anyone else has him or his family in their tree? Or perhaps has the time to take a look and see if he can be located anywhere please?

Thanks for reading this

Hi TomR
No I don't have the parents names and shall expect to have to buy the cert.
The marriage was registered Q1 v5b p455 Plymouth.

Hi JenB

I have the family in 1901 and suspect George was at sea, but no RN census found - yet!!

I shall have a look at the 1871 page you suggest.

Many thanks

Just looked at that page and can't be sure it is them as HENRY GEORGE is offered not George William.
Got any suggestions please?

Hi

Try downloading his RN service record, while it will have no family information it may help trace his movements. In the link below I've included all Greeno' since I'm sure some will be relatives.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/search-results.asp?searchtype=browserefine&query=last_name%3dgreeno&catid=15&pagenumber=1&querytype=1&mediaarray=*&sortspec=first%5Fdate+asc

He may well be a Coastguard in Ireland, which would explain why you cannot find him on the Census.
