Thank you all for the information you have sent us, we will now follow this up, although we are still novices at computers and tracing our family tree.
We contacted Shropshire Archives as I stated and they couldn't come up with any Ratcliff's in the area in this time period, so we agree, they were probably non- Cof E.
If anybody can help us in any other way with tracing our family tree we would be most grateful.
