I've been following this post for some days and trying Ancestry at various times after people have reported problems.   I've not seen any speed problems at all and I have a fairly slow broadband connection (2.8mbits/sec downstream).

I use Ancestry most days and at different times

It is not exactly a speed problem but rather a delay in searching for data. Once it starts downloading there is no problem except that sometimes I get a blank formatted data page.

Where are all the other contributors who were complaining about Ancestry earlier this week?  Have you all found solutions?

Hi

This was posted on the thread on Ancestry over the weekend. At least giving feedback to them may help?

Quote
We continue to investigate the problem. Unfortunately, they are sporadic. They seem to be limited (primarily) to users in the UK, but not all users in the UK are experiencing the problem. This makes it more difficult to trace.

However, we have found some problems that we have been able to correct. These (hopefully) will help the situation. We are also investigation some other potentially problematic areas.

If you continue to have problems, please provide the following details either on this board or to feedback@ancestry.com:

1. The time of day you experienced the slowdown. We will assume, unless you state otherwise, that you are reporting the local time in the UK
2. The URL you were accessing when you experienced the slowdown

This information will help us further narrow down the problem and give us timeframes in our server logs to check for sporadic problems.

Thank you for your patience.

Regards,

Jim Mosher

As sometimes happens to me on this site.

People may find Ancestry a little slow at the moment because of the severe weather (along with power blackouts) in parts of New York and Connecticut.  I was trying to listen to some NY internet radio stations this morning, and had to give up because the very slow connections wouldn't even support streamed audio.

Best Wishes,  Nick.

A big improvement over the last couple of days. I have done nothing at my end to cause this.

If you access the American site after Calinfornia wakes up (14.30GMT) you will find everything much slower. So far as other things permit, which is not that often, I prefer to use the net before 14.00 for this reason. The best time to use the Internet is any American bank holiday.
