Tikka, just realised that one of the A/trees I have been referring to is your tree  ;) How have you made the links to Francis Love and wife Agnes Cockburn?

Going out on a complete hunch or limb...or something!

James Love shows as a baker on his 1900 entry. Not sure there would be many James Loves working as a baker at that time in Hawaii.

Could this be his family www.lovesbakeryhawaii.com/about.html

I hope so, as this would give you a really interesting background to the family and let you work back with greater confidence on the Scottish side.

Monica

Thanks!! Will look into ... didn't even think about this and I am from Hawaii!   :P

Thanks for your links Monica. As far as the LOVE/COCKBURN relation, this was a long shot from a family member ... I've decided it probably isn't correct. The LOVE/WATT relation seems to have more merit.

I so hope the Love Bakery all fits it - great history there which you will be able to access  :)

Would be good to check what parents' info if any was given on Robert Snr. and Margaret (Watt)'s death certs. We need some clues to be able to try to find anything for them here in Scotland in respect of ancestors.

Hello.

Your post brings back memories, of when I first started my research, in the early 1980's at the LDS family centre, scrolling through the films of the 1820's OPR's of the Environs of Glasgow. I've had a quick look back through my notes of that time, but can't find a note made of what I found so interesting.

An OPR entry noting the Christening of a "foundling" left on the Kirk steps and given to a family in the parish to raise. They christened the child "Christian LOVE" Previously I had not given any thought to what happened to those born out of wedlock.

Very interesting! Thank you Alan. I guess I've not given any thought to babes born out of wedlock either .... another avenue I may have to pursue!

Having responded to your other thread re. Francis Love who is clearly not your ancestor have looked at this thread and I think you really need to examine the evidence again.

Trish posted the 1841 Census details of the family in Barony - however, what is not mentioned is that Robert and probable siblings John and Mary are shown as Not Born in Lanarkshire i.e. their baptisms if found will not be in Glasgow or indeed the county of Lanarkshire.   Whilst they left Glasgow to go to Hawaii Robert wasn't actually a native of Glasgow as the newspaper article states.

Ages over 15 were 'rounded down' in the 1841 Census so Robert Love could be born 1812-1816, John 1817-1821 and Mary 1822-1826.

Further, the Scottish naming pattern would suggest that as first male child was named Robert that Robert senior was the son of a Robert too i.e. first male child named after paternal grandfather.

The facts would therefore suggest that Robert Love was born sometime between 1812 and 1816 but not in Lanarkshire, and that his father was probably a Robert too.

Would be interesting to try and follow his probable siblings John and Mary if they stayed in Scotland as their death entries (if after 1855) would state their parents names.

I appreciate how difficult this is not knowing where he actually came from but following a Glasgow trail is incorrect as the 1841 Census clearly shows.
