Louisa's birth is before the start of Civil Registration of births in 1864, so you will need to check church records for her baptism. To do this you need to establish the denomination of your Hinsell family and also where in Co. Waterford they lived at the time - i.e. which parish or townland.

Hi,

I can see her on the 1861 census in Nether Hallam. I think I can see her mother too in the same military institution Maria was her name. I can also see Thomas Hensell in the same institution. (they are all listed seperatly)

I see she married William Halsall on 12th October 1872 in Bevington St. Alban !

Her father's name was Thomas on this record too !

There is a Thomas Hensell and Maria Greathead getting married in 1855 in Richmond Yorkshire - no way of knowing if it's the same couple or not though !

Tara

Have you tried tracing military records for Louisa's father to see if you can work out where he might have been posted in 1855 ?

There were several army barracks and military locations in Co Waterford at the time.

p.s. it's also worth checking the 1911 census details for Louisa if you have not already done this. It often gives a more detailed place of birth...

Hi Anne,

I did visit a military museum in Dungarvan Waterford before and the staff were lovely and helpful.

They may be worth giving a call to see if they can point you in the right direction.

Good Luck

Tara
