There is a Helen Butters dying in Durham South East RD Mar q 1950, aged 75. This would fit with her birthdate.

Are you're sure that this Helen was Helen Dalziel/alts?

John McWilliam, Hotel Boots, 28 and Helen Dalziel, Hotel Waitress, 22 (I assume she was being economical with the truth!)

Her parents as listed above.

In 1901 William Butters is married to Rosanna and living in Cummertrees.  I wonder if Rosanna was nee Shannon

1901 census - There is a John McWilliam boarder aged 37 b Kelton but he is a granite quarryman.  I don't have access to the image so don't know what his marital status was

There is another aged 36 also in lodgings.  Born Wigtown but living in Kirkmabreck Kirkcudbrightshire - general labourer

There is no entry for a John McWilliam with a wife Helen or similar

I'll check for Helen

The  marriage year indication on 1911 is nicely arrange to be just prior to the birth of daughter Elizabeth.

And I wonder if this is Helen & John  in 1901:
