How about this one?

Deaths Mar 1885
Border    Charles    52    Cardiff    11a   201

That's the only one anywhere in England and Wales between those dates according to Freebmd:  http://www.freebmd.org.uk

Hi thanks for your reply.
Do you think it is safe to assume that that is him the age is a couple of years out?
His wife and 3 children from 1881 are still in Swansea in 1891
Wife Mary with youigest son charles now aged 11 are living together and daughter Edith now aged 14 is a servant in another house. Oldest son Arthur is married and living with his mother inlaw

Hi Alan  :)
Arthur is in 1871 Wales census, Portland St Swansea, 5 yrs.
Father Charles brushmaker  is listed as 42 yrs bn 1829c in Chesham Bucks which matches 1881 census (but not age)
His wife is Harriet 43 bn Amersham Bucks.
Relative 15 Sarah Edwards asst to brushmaker.
1861 just Charles & Harriet he's 31 she is 32, Amersham Bucks

Me again..with a 10 yr gap between Arthur at 15 in 1881 and Edith 5, Mary Ann must be Charles 2nd wife?
There is a death for Harriet Border, aged 44 yrs, which fits, 1872 sept qtr but it's in Hendon Msex.

Hi

Where did you get the born about 1830 from? If it is from the censuses remember they weren't always accurate and as far as death certificates are concerned, they are only as accurate as the information given by the person registering the death. As far as I can see that is the only death of a Charles Border anywhere between 1881 and 1891. The only way to be certain would be to get the certificate to see if it matches with his occupation etc and hope that it was registered by a member of the family.

Thank you both for your input
Charles was married twice I am decended from his second marriage, I was just thinking if his first wife hadn't died I wouldn't be here bugging you.LOL
I think I will have to accept the Cardiff death as my Charles, but it does seem very odd. Maybe I will order that death cert one day!
Thanks again for your time much appeciated
Alan

Hello  :)

Have you seen the entry in the Cambrian Index?

Charles Border, General Dealer, using abusive language towards William Butcher.
Newspaper 5th November 1869, page 6

http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=6197

Doesn't solve his death date but interesting!

Kind Regards
Morgan
