Hi - thanks for the links. Yes this Alexander and John would appear to be brothers, marrying sisters. What I need to know is where the father, John Hatrick, was born. If in Scotland then his dates and names would fit with my family. So far, no luck with finding this out. Cheers.

Hi Corsebank, I've read your posts (and their answers) with a great deal of interest. As near as I can tell your wife and I would be 3rd cousins. My g-grandmother was the daughter of John & Catherine (O'Neill) Hattrick. I would very much like to learn more of what you have uncovered.

Thanks Bally. The Belfast City Cemetery Hattricks are my ancestors. John (d.1872) and Catherine (d.1877) were my gg-grandparents. The other John was their son and Margaret (McCaull) his wife - they are half of the brothers-married-to-sisters mentioned previously.

in 1839 Martin's Belfast Directory lists John Hatrick of 44 Cromac St as a Sawyer see http://streetdirectories.proni.gov.uk/media/0w6BMRvjDG6qffy8zvzeHQ..a?ts=N0PsD47feyJCOwucyaVHzQ..a

the ancestryireland.com website takes your name in ireland back to c 1616 with a Strabane connection with a member 23760 in his listed research interests, another member 10558 is searching for info on Joshua and William Hatrick bc1765-1784

although not necessarily an irish relative connection as such,, Using http://www.dippam.ac.uk/ied/ you will find various exploits of the mariners Master Hatrick and Capt Hatrick in particular in 1832 sinking of his vessel  the Brig Beaver, he and crew were abandoned by another vessel and saved the next day by a second. the website has some 15 items mainly Derry one Belfast entry with a Capt Pat Hatrick
 good luck onwards

Thank you once again, Bally. I have documented John Hattrick (b.1799) extensively but have never found anything earlier than that information to which you have linked. In one of Corsebank's posts he mentioned a marriage date which is something I've not yet been able to track down. Currently I am working on confirming or denying that he is the JH born in Greenock, Scotland. To that end I am tracing the Hattrick/Hatrick family from their first appearance (1648) in Scottish records.

One particularly intriguing aspect of the Greenock JH is parentage. I've found two couples, Alexander Hattrick/Helen Adam & Alexander Hatrick/Helen Adam. The double 'T' are Greenock JH's parents and, despite my initial misgivings, seem to be a distinctly different pair. The single 'T' couple had an Alexander in 1799. Other births are confused by the interchanging use of TT and T.

The IED site is wonderful - thanks so very much for that link. I can't imagine why I've never heard of it before and expect to spend quite some time there. Cheers.
