Alexander Hattrick 1832
« on: Tuesday 25 October 11 16:38 BST (UK) »
Alexander (1832) married Jane McCaull (1836) in Ireland his parents were John Hattrick (10/11/1872) who married to Catherine O'Niel on the 14th of July 1830. If anyone has any other info on these people I would be very grateful for any input as I am stuck here and can not get any further.

Brilliant, thanks very much.
I find it hard to research the Irish records, in fact I find it hard with any records and I easily get confused. I am new to this kind of thing on the computer but find it getting better all the time especially with people like you who give their time to replying to people like me. This is my wifes Great, Great, Great Grandfather and all I have found out so far is that he was married to a Catherine O'Niel on the 14th of July 1830. With this will to read I will I think find out many more things about him and his family.

Once Again

Thanks Very Much

Its quite an interesting will - I particularly like the weekly income for the wife! -  to see page 2 and 3 just keep clicking the next button- just in case you didn't notice it.
Familysearch.org (extracted, old version) gives this spelling for the marriage:
   CATHERINE O NEILE
        JOHN HETRICK
     Marriage:
14 JUL 1830      Saint Ann'S, Belfast, Antrim, Ireland

Not well up on Belfast churches - wondering if someone else would know where this is? Is it where the C of I Cathedral is nowadays - just realised don't know what religion!

A possible death for John:
Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958 for John Hattrick

Name:    John Hattrick
Registration Quarter and Year:    1872
Estimated Birth Year:    1799
Age (at Death):    73
Volume Number:    16
Page Number:    245

He is at No 24 Annette Street, off Verner Street in 1861, differnt spelling again:
 26. John Hatrick, sawyer.
There is no no 31 at this point -
http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/1852streetsatol.htm
(- but it is worth noting his neighbours - just in case any of the children marry them!)

Welcome to rootschat, by the way, we all had to start somewhere!

St Ann's Church, Belfast was demolished about 1901, and St Ann's Cathedral was then built on the same site.

Hi,
One of the executors of the will of John Hattrick was James Horner Haslett. I wonder if this was the man who became a Member of Parliament and was Lord Mayor of Belfast for two terms. He was also knighted.
I also notice that there is the will for another John Hattrick who died in 1876, a sea captain from Londonderry.

1887 Street directory has Cath Hattrick spinster living at No. 31 Annette St.
She may be the daughter mentioned in the will. The other property mentioned in the will, Hattrick Place intersects with Anette Street, as can be seen in the listing.
http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/acomplete1877.htm

Griffith's valuation has a John Hettrick living at:
Cromac Townparks Annette Street  Shankill     Antrim
So that places him there in the 1850's
He appears to be   the owner and leesee of 13 properties in Annette St and Hattrick place. He is renting 29 from Sir Stephen May. He owns 31 and has iit rented out to a Henry Gibson.

You can print out the entry and the maps on:
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml
Just type Hattrick in the family name box, Antrim in the County, and click search.

Thanks for the info about St. Annes - found it on wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Anne%27s_Cathedral,_Belfast
Thats interesting about the Lord Mayor. As he was clearly fairly well off, there may be a political, church or family connection, if it is the Mayor.

There are a few bits and bobs online about the sea captain, but I cannot see any way to connect him from the will, so far.

Hope as you are new to this what I have written makes sense - feel free to throw in any comments or questions.

Hi this is a long shot as a few years have passed since your post! But I too am interested in John Hatrick/Catherine McNeil. John is possibly the brother of my great great great grandfather Alexander Hatrick, of Greenock, Scotland. Have you been able to find out where he was born? Regards
