Gammons-Wills Marriage 1912
« on: Thursday 27 October 11 11:41 BST (UK) »
Hi
I was hoping someone could look up a marriage please, between Thomas C Gammons and Emily K Wills in Bedford district in Sept quarter of 1912. I am hoping to find out their parents.
Helen

Hello Helen

Can you narrow this search down a bit please, Bedford RD covers a load of Bedford & North Beds parishes. Have you located them in the 1911 census.

First, forgive for stating the obvious, but purchasing the marriage certificate will give you both father's names and occupations ;D
As well as ages of the happy couple.

However, I believe this is Thomas' family in 1901:

Reference RG13, Piece 1494, Folio 14, Page 20
Mid Station, Cardington, Bedfordshire (Midland Railways Station?)

Gammons, J  Head  M  48  Station Master  b Stagsden, Bedfordshire
Gammons, Sarah  Wife  F  45  b Copel, Beds
Gammons, Thomas  Son  M  26  Plate Layer  b Flitwick, Beds
Gammons, Lilly  Daughter  F  17  Dress Maker  b Bedford
Gammons, Percy  Son  M  13  b Bedford
Gammons, Annie  Daughter  F  10  b Cardington
Gammons, Maud  Daughter  F  8  b Cardington
Gammons, Hilda  Daughter  F  4  b Cardington
Franklin, Jane  Mother-in-Law  Widow  F  76  b Cople

But the marriage certificate would certainly help to confirm this.

EDIT:
This Thomas is one of 2 in the 1911 census, in Bedfordshire, but the other one is married!
The unmarried Thomas is Thomas Charles in 1911, father John.

Hi
I haven't located Emily in 1911, but I have located Thomas at Cardington station. However, I don't know if the marriage occured there.
I do have a possible candidate for Emily though. An Emily Keat Wills born 1870 in Newlyn East, Cornwall, daughter of Joseph Wills, ag lab. Emily K Gammons died aged 57 in 1927, so born about 1870.

If Thomas Charles Gammons was living in Cardington in 1911 then that would be my first place to look for the marriage, seeing that the Emily you've found is not from Beds. If marriage is not found there, then next check the banns at Cardington to see if they get a mention.

No, much easier and quicker to splash out £9-25 for the certificate from the GRO

... or contact someone on Genes Reunited who has both parties on her tree to see if they already have the details....  I'm still waiting a response.
