Have not posted on this site for several years. Still researching Hampsons but not sure of origins of William Hampson born circa 1770. Charles Hampson of Hale near Bowdon, his supposed father left a will including a substantial amount for his son’s education. Charles was a wealthy man. It doesn’t seem to fit with the watermen. William and Mary baptised their older children in Warrington, St. Elphins. Peter and Ann Hampson had a son William in the early 1770’s, and baptised him at St. Elphins. Peter was a plasterer. William and Mary’s first child was named Peter and baptised in Lymm soon after their marriage. Warrington not far from Lymm where William married Mary Perrin in 1793. Just something else to throw into the mix!
It would be great to hear from anyone still researching the Hampsons.
