hi, I'm new to roots, I have been tracing my family tree on Genes Reunited but hit a block with my grandmothers grandparents, my great grandmother was Evelyn Maud Alberta Hampson b 1893, who married (1914) John Ernest Brownlow b1889. Evelyn's father was Herbert Hampson b 1868 in Runcorn but I'm having difficulty tracing his parents...I think he is related to the river men, but hope someone here can help??
thanks
Fiona Barker

Hi Fiona,
Herbert's parents were William Hampson  1859 - 1929 and Harriet Lowe Woodward.
William's parents were James Hampson  1832 - 189? And Harriet Hampson ( they were cousins )
James's parents were John Hampson 1805 - 1841 and Alice Booth.
I am descended from Herbert's younger sister Harriet Rebecca.
Hope this helps.
Stella :)

Hi Stella, thanks for your reply but the dates don't add up, if William was Herbert's father he would have been 9 when he fathered Herbert ?

Sorry Fiona!
Herbert was William's brother so his parents were James and Harriet Hampson. James was born in Runcorn and Harriet was from Stockton Quay near Warrington. I'm getting my Herbert's mixed up. William , Herbert's brother also had a son Herbert who was the brother of my paternal grandmother.
Sorry to confuse you!
Stella

Hi I am the great granddaughter of the "flame" of Robert Owen Hampson; Eliza Cottier. Robert Owen is listed as the father on the birth record of my grandfather Philip.
Does anyone have Roberts date of death?

Hello

I am a Hampson (b 1947) and still live not so far from Runcorn. I am descended from John who died in 1841 and whose wife then married again (Owen). I would be very interested in finding out anything about the Hampsons who were boatmen, anything before 1800 and seeing any photographs. My grandfather Joseph (a baker, and grandson of John) died of meningitis soon after my father was born.

Did anyone spot this baptism at Daresbury?
26 June 1796  Richard Hampson, son of William and Mary Hampson of Lower Walton, flatman.
In the right area, I would have thought, and the right occupation.

Extracted from a newspaper of 1811 - mention of Richard Hampson, captain of a packet boat sailing from Runcorn to Manchester. Assistant on the boat is Frances Roylance.
