COMPLETED - Marriage between William Mardlin and Mary about 1818-1827
« on: Wednesday 02 November 11 20:45 GMT (UK) »
Just a long shot really.  William was born in Ickleford/Kings Walden in 1792 to John and Ann Mardlin.  He married Hannah Webb in 1817 in Ickleford but she died in 1818.
In 1819, 1820 and 1822 a William and Mary had 3 children baptised in Ayot St Lawrence, Herts (from the IGI).  This may or may not be the same couple that I am interested in.
From looking at the Hatfield parish registers I found that William and Mary had children baptised  between 1827 and 1841 but I can find no marriage for them anywhere.  From the censuses for Hatfield Mary appears to come from Romford, Essex, born about 1797.  She died in 1864 aged 66.
As William's cousin Thomas married in Luton I wonder whether William married in that area also.
To recap - I am trying to find a marriage between William Mardlin and Mary either after July 1818 or before September 1827.
Any ideas please?

Hi, From IGI, what about extracted PR marriage at Holwell, Herts on 13 July 1828 of William Mardlin to Mary Dawbone. There's a contact (Tanya) on Genes Reunited that has both names in her tree & has that Mary was b 1796 Romford Essex.

but you already know that ....

There's no other William Mardlin/Mary marriage in the Allen Marriage Index, so that rules out Herts (unless Mardlin(g) has been so mangled as not to be picked up). The Holwell marriage is proved not be the right one as Mary Mardling née Dawbone remarried in Hitchin in 1839, so Tanya on GR seems to have that one wrong. I can't see a burial of William Mardling though.

Whilst much of Beds post 1812 has been extracted onto the IGI there are parishes that haven't. As there's no marriage on the IGI in Beds 1818-27 it's either the case that they didn't marry in Beds or that they married in Beds, or Essex perhaps, in a parish that's not on the IGI

Did you order any birth certificates of her children to get Mary's maiden name?

David

Many thanks to John and David.
There is only one certificate I could order and that is for their son James who died at the age of just 8 months in Feb 1839 so I shall have to weigh up the £10 cost against my "need to know".
William was buried 16 July 1876 and Mary 14 Feb 1864.
Thanks again for your help, it is much appreciated.
