Probably Bristol Archives?

Portishead has always been a dormitory town for Bristol, and many of the institutions and land were Bristol owned/based.

So, it's worth trying there first.

Maybe The Children's Society?
They took over the running of many homes.

I was at nore house from 1961 to 1965. During this time I was fostered out twice. A few years ago I traced my birth mother, who sadly passed away before I got to meet her. I did find a sister who lives in Bristol. By strange coincidence one of her best friends purchased a house on the site of the old orphanage. Apparently there were originally 2 buildings on the site although I don't have any memory of that. There is just one original building on the site. I was able to describe to the current owners in detail an upstairs room that was used as an airing  cupboard- it had wooden slats. I have few memories - my favourite nurse was called nanny Tricia. I recall riding my bike in the wrong direction around the outside of the house, and losing a fingernail as a result. My best friend was called graham. I did try and find records but without any luck. My adoption officer was called mr Clark. He had black nhs specs.

Just found this thread sorry so late.  I worked weekends and school holidays there in the sixties. It left a profound effect on me.  I also went to school in the fifties with some of the children.  But they were moved to a Bristol home at about ten.  Memories, quite a few!

Hi ive just joined rootschat in a hope to find out more about nore house as i was there with my little sister between about 1961-1963 aged 4. I have some vague memories of the house and the garden that led down to the beach. It was a lovely house. I remember a rope net in a big tree and we used to play in an old car in the garden. I remember my freind john, a girl called lesley and a coloured girl called bonny. I wonder if they are about in th bristol area, also i would love to see a photo of the house (if anyone has one that is, as ive had no luck on the web. Happy new year. From stey
