Johann Mertin
« on: Friday 04 November 11 15:03 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
my Name is Thomas from Germany. I`am seraching the brother of my grandfather and his ancestress.
His name was Johann Mertin. He was married in England and he has got childreen. During the first Wold War(1914-1918) he was a prisoner in a camp, because he was a German. If the war ends, he left England and came back to Germany. He died in the 70īs in Germany in Braunschweig.

Maybe somebody knows something about Johann Mertin or somebody can give me information about camps in England for German people durging World War 1.

Thank you.

Thomas

When was he born, and do you know his whereabouts in England before he was a Prisoner?

Was his Birthplace Ginsheim

Were the children born before or during the War?

Was his wife called Louisa? (perhaps born in East London?)

Children perhaps Johannes, Karl & Dorothy?

Thank your for the answers.

Johann Mertin was born in Germany in Schlesien in a little town called Jamke in polish language and Heinrichshof in german language. Jamke / Heinrichshof belongs to the churcharea of Friedland near Oppeln / Oppole.

My uncle told me, that the wife of Johann Mertin didnīt left England. May be they were deforced and she married again.I donīt know anything about her and her childreen.
They are the reason for my surching.

Thank you

Thomas Mertin

hello thomas
can you give us a birth year for johann please .
and what work did he do for a living .
it is difficult to find him i think because his name can be changed so many ways such as johann can become johannes or john  in england  also his other name mertin   can become merten -  moreten  - martin  - mertyn.
with the english language so many names become altered over time .
can you ask your uncle if he has any idea what johann,s wifes name might be or where they lived in england any information how ever small may help to find him
regards

trevor

Just beaten me to it, Trish

Daughter Marie J. appears to marry as Merie J. Mertin to a Cecil A. Harris in the June quarter 1933 Hackney, London - looks like they had one son born in the June quarter 1938 Hackney whom I can't name here as he could still be living.

Looks like Jessie A. Vaughan died 1929 Hackney.
