Arrival in Aust for William and Sarah Ann EARL
« on: Friday 04 November 11 22:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am hoping someone can tell me when William and Sarah Ann Earl arrived in Australia and the ship they came on. They married in 1864 in East Ashford, Kent and their first son was born on the 24th January 1866 in Stanwell, Qld. So about 1865.

They do not appear on the shipping lists for Qld that I can find so did they arrive in another state.

I have all other information on this family only this piece is missing. Any help would be appreciated.

Pauline

Just checking to see if they arrived via Victoria

- there is a W A Earl arriving from Britain, on Pride of the Ocean, in December 1864 and a Sarah arriving Shalimar in May 1865.    Time is right but state is wrong - unless they travelled to QLD together later.  Both came as unassisted passengers.

Long shot - but from experience, I know a couple of my rellies travelled on different ships - maybe the husband come early to prepare the way - just a thought -   can't see others and on the condensed shipping lists I can't see them at all -

Thanks for looking Wiggy.

I don't think they are my couple. There would also have been a daughter Ann Ellen born 1862 with them.

Many thanks again.

Ah well you didn't mention her!   ;)    these two were 26 and 24 respectively.

Sorry I'm not sure how to get to the lists from other states.   Will keep trying though.

Sorry Wiggy. Ann Ellen was born before they were married.

William was born in 1831 in Kent and Sarah Ann was born 1840 also in Kent. Sarah would fit with the 1865 arrival but William's birth is a bit out. Unless he lied about his age.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Neil,

Yes that is the lady I am trying to find on a shipping list.

I have all the births etc after they arrive in Qld. Just the one missing piece on how and when they arrived.

Thanks anyway for looking.

Hi Pauline, Could you give us what you KNOW so far please. Do you know definitely that this William and Sarah Earl, ARE the ones you are looking for. Or do they just have the right names.

I ask this because we seem to be tracking relations forward, not backwards. I am a fan of going back from what you DO know. Mistakes can be made looking at the wrong people. Do you have any Certs, IE Marriage and or Births.

Cheers Neil ;D

You might never find them on a QLD passenger list.
The records of immigrant arrivals in Queensland are incomplete & not all the passenger lists have survived to the present day.
