Hi, me again, can I just ask why you believe "Ellick" aged 25 on 1851 is an Alexander, as I have located the family in 1841, and no sign of a son Ellick/Alexander? Census ref HO107/1245/ 6/4/ 1
I see now that Richard Donald was the Richard who married Annas Metcalf!

Hi all, can someone locate the baptism/1841 census of this "Ellick"/ Alexander Donald/Macdonald/Mcdonald? Reason I ask he arrives in 1851 and only appears on that census, apparently?

Hi,

I can't find anything either, apart from this :

Death, Sep qtr 1861
Alexander Donald
Darlington, Vol 10a, page 2

Problem is, there were also three Alexander McDonalds living in Co Durham in 1861. It's just discounting the others, then wondering where Ellick was in 1861 - even if this is the right one ?

Bowes was only approx 4 miles from the County Durham border.

Interestingly enough, according to the transcript of the entry of "professions and trades" for Barningham in Baines's Directory of 1823 :

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Barningham/Barningham23.html

Under miscellany of trades there was :

•  M'Donald Alex. victualler: Black Horse

Obviously not the one we're looking for, but hopefully his grandfather, or a close relation.

How about this for a coincidence :

1841 census :
HO107/1245/2, Folio 4, Page 1

Yorkshire, Barningham

Alexander Macdonald, 52, InnKeeper
Eleanor, 53
Alexander, 14

All born in county.
