John Munkley and Elizabeth Parry -Cathedine marriage 1760
« on: Saturday 05 November 11 16:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello again, please can you help as I'm stuck as I have lost the reference to a marriage I have recorded so am now not sure that it is correct. I think I took it from the IGI , but it doesn't seem to be there now   :(

Would anyone be able to check who has access to marriage records for Cathedine in 1760 for John Munkley/Monkley/Munckley or variants to Elizabeth Parry, and if there is a bonus of parents names mentioned.

I have John (and his wife Elizabeth) living and dying in Clodock, Hereford in 1811 aged 84 and, so am working on a birthdate of 1727 for John. However, a childs birth to them isn't recorded in Clodock until 1772, so think a record of children born to same named parents from 1763-69 in Llanigon, Brecknock may be one and the same?

with kind regards
MarMnkly

It is there 08 June 1760, Catherdine, Brecon, Wales, but is Submitted so need to be treated with caution.
Hopefully someone can check it for you.

Familysearch.Org has these in Clodock and Longton to John/Elizabeth Munckley;
PHEEBE, 22 March 1772
GEORGE, 20 May 1773

Thanks so much Trish :)
I also have IGI entries for children to parents of the same name between the supposed marriage date and the dates of children born in Clodock. I know the parents have common first names so could be another family living in Llanigon as follows:

William Munkley 1763
Elizabeth Munkley 1765
John Munkley 1767
Thomas Munkley 1769

What is did find was that lots of the Llanigon entries have the fathers first name as the childs surname; so all the above had 'John' rather than 'Munkley' -and similarly for many other entries
I'm not sure what happened when they were computerised?

Hello,
it's been a while since I posted on this marriage but I can now see the digital image on FindMyPast of the marriage of John Munkley and Elizabeth Parry in Cathedine on 8th June 1760.
This brings up some questions that should help me work through previous assumptions that John was born about 1727 and Elizabeth about 1738.
 - The image says they were married by banns with consent of parents - can this help me age both or one of them?
-Something is written before Johns name, and I cannot read it. I have attached a snip of the image

Update **having trouble attaching the image   :(

Please can you help

“the sd”?-a contraction of “the said”?

Thanks Roger, it could say that :-\
I don't know what I have done but suspect I'm just being dull, but my attachments and other options (with the red arrow pointing down) only has three boxes - notify me of replies; don't use smileys; return to this topic. My attach photo or other options isn't visible below . I know the facility to post images isn't available on all boards, maybe this is why and I may have to start a new post?

The facility seems available on the main board but not look-up requests.

Well a hew years have gone by!

I presume you have found this info by now re the Llanigon entries  ;

Baptism date   17 Mar 1765
Person forename   Elizabeth
Father forename   John
Mother forename   Elizabeth
Father surname   JOHN
Notes Childs name is Patronymic-Fathers name is John Monkley

The other children mentioned have the same info.

Source if above FreeREG

A patronymic, or patronym, is a component of a personal name based on the given name of one's father, grandfather, or an earlier male ancestor. A component of a name based on the name of one's mother or a female ancestor is a matronymic. Each is a means of conveying lineage.

You can see images of clodock parish registers here, not too easy to read.
