19 North Drive, New Brighton, Wallasey, Merseyside
« on: Sunday 06 November 11 14:33 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for anyone who had a connection with the property 19 North Drive, New Brighton, Wallasey, Merseyside (formerly Cheshire). The house was demolished in the 1950's, I believe.

I am hoping to find a photo of the property so that I can positively identify a picture I have of an unidentified house in Wallasey, or eliminate it accordingly.

The photo I have was taken c. 1905 and the owner of 19 North Drive in the 1911 census was Thomas William Naylor Barlow GP.

Are there any of Dr Barlow's descendants out there who may have a photo of the house that they could share with me, or, alternatively, is there anyone else with a connection to the area who may have a general picture of North Drive which happens to show number 19?
Many thanks,
Baz.

Hi Bigbazza.
My name is Dave Wallace, a native of Liverpool and I now live in Hobart Tasmania.
I cannot help with a photo of 19 North Drive but, I do have a connection to the Barlow family at 19 North Drive.   Can I ask if your interest is in the family, or just in the building, please?
My interest is in the family, primarily.  I looked at the address in Google maps and my thought was that the house looked nothing like the 'huge' house with servant bells that I remember.  Your post explains why it now looks so small and I thought it was down to my bad memory.
Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for replying to my post.
It is the building only that I am interested in.  If you do have a connection to the Barlow family, perhaps you could ask them if they have a picture of the old house which could be posted here.
The photograph I have is of a large house with two servants standing in the doorway. The servants are dressed in full length white uniforms, one of whom is my grandmother.
You intimate that you have a memory of the old house in North Drive.  Would it be of benefit to you if I posted my picture to see if it jogs your memory further?
Cheers,
Baz

19 North Drive is still shown on the 1974-1975 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html#/Map/329953/393711/13/100765
You can see the 1911 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html#/Map/329938/393743/12/101234

It is not there on the 1899 map.

Number 19 is still there now - it's an Edwardian semi. https://goo.gl/yzAeDu

Dr Barlow later moved to number 23 North Drive  (he's listed there in 1923 and 1938 directories): https://goo.gl/JntnXe

Yes I have, Girl Guide. As you may have noticed, my original post was dated 6 Nov 2011 and the first reply I received was from Dave Wallace, today!
In the meantime I have tried as many avenues as I can think of, without success. To be honest I had all but given up until Dave replied.
Cheers,
Baz

So what is the link that Shaun gave you in Reply#4?  I've just clicked on it and it shows me a Google street view of 21 North Drive so presumably 19 is either to the left or right.

If you look at the map I gave you can see which house is which from the numbers, and count them up from the end.
