No sister called Rose,James was born in 1868 and still living in Ireland in 1870.Regarding hospital records, was told that it was very unlikely that any have survived.

Hi there

I would think that thee marriage cert would show you his parents. that is the only way I know of checking for sure. Someone else might have a better idea. Oh what about the igi, have you checked on there? The family search web site, it may have the marriage if your lucky and even luckier if it has the parents listed too.

good luck

One possibility for the James McCoy you found in the 1910 is a marriage of James McCoy to Ellen Quinn in Philadelphia in 1897.

If you've seen the actual 1910 census image, it might have a column for age at marriage or the year of marriage or the number of years married.

You can see James McCoy's marriage to Ellen Quinn by going to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania marriage index on the FamilySearch website at https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&region=NORTH_AMERICA

Unfortunately, you won't get to see a marriage license. But you can search both names to verify that the marriage certificate number is the same for the two of them.

In any case, you can't be sure if this is your James McCoy. One way to find birth information for James McCoy is to search for some indication that he was naturalized as a U.S. citizen and get hold of the naturalization papers. The 1920 and 1930 censuses might have that information--assuming that he lived to be counted in those years and that you find the real McCoy.

In the 1920 census index, James and Ellen McCoy are still in Philadelphia, with children John, Ellen and Marie (instead of Mary). Found this in the 120 census index on FamilySearch. Someone should check the original on Ancestry.

To see the index entry, go to https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MF1D-LY9

The 1930 census has James McCoy in Philadelphia, born 1870, immigrated 1884, widowed, living as a lodger, born in "northern Ireland." He's a lot older than James should be.

You can see the index entry for James at https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/1BSG-S79/p_10406219667

There is a John McCoy born 11899/900 who might be the son of James and Ellen: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/1BSL-R2S/p_10406176705
