Have a look on Google.  I do not think the hotel is still there but Hampden Park is.

It is possible that this is a jest used by a tramp or a young person sleeping rough.

Another thought is that it is a lodging house. Elizabeth Hampton and Elizabeth Ruth Hampton had lodging houses at 37 and 8 Gildridge Road, shown on the 1899 Kelley's Directory.

Finally, is there a date and are you sure this is Eastbourne?

Found it!  :D

It is listed in the 1911 Kelley's Directory for Sussex, with Henry Scott as the manager, with an address just given as Hampton Park (page 916).

In the 1965 Kelley's for Eastbourne it is shown as Hampton Park Hotel (Trust Houses Ltd) at 2 Brodrick Road H P. On modern maps Brodrick Road runs from near the railway station north then turns west towards Willingdon. It is one of those places that from a distance is "Eastbourne" but is on the outskirts of the modern town in what was the rural village fringe.

Hi

This hotel was indeed knocked down in the early 60's - I have spoken
to someone today who remembers it, saying it was a very
"posh" hotel, and they always had lovely flower displays.

cheers
