Identification of location - Carms (and Pembs)
« on: Sunday 20 November 11 10:39 GMT (UK) »
In 1851 George Davies (56, born Llan??, Pembs) and Margaret Davies (60, born Llang??, Carms), living Pen y darren, Merthyr Tydfil. Children present included Mary (36) and Benjamin (28), both born Llang??, Carms.

I would welcome any help in deciphering and locating these various birthplaces.

If someone is able to post original census entry, this might prove helpful to others. Sorry I am not able to provide complete details of census record.

Gnu - many, many thanks for your prompt and helpful response.

My direct interest is in Margaret, born Merthyr Tydfil. I was hoping that by identifying the birth places of her parents and siblings, I might get a clue as to where her parents married. I have now found record of the marriage between a George Davies and a Margaret Lewis in Llanstephan on 28 Aug 1813 on Free Reg, which looks very promising.

Again, your assistance is much appreciated.

Gnu - I meant to include this in my earlier message:-

Free Reg has "groom parish" shown as "Lfa". Any suggestions where that might be?

It could be short for Llanfyrnach (which was my best guess on the census) or Llanfallteg which is Carm/Pembroke:

Lucky you having Freereg - North Wales still has to rely mainly on FHS publications or Records Office info  :-\

The 1851 is definitely Llanfyrnach. I've just checked again on another site. I also agree with myself about the others' birth places  ;D

Attached a snip of the birth places.
