MACNUTT family of Victoria - completed
« on: Monday 28 November 11 13:45 GMT (UK) »
George Augustus Macnutt, a surgeon/clergyman, was with his large family in England in 1881, but had at least one son in Australia (Frederick Brodie Macnutt - b 1873; bap 1891, Caulfield), before returning to die in 1905 in England.

I would like to know how long the family were in Australia - particularly another son John Stewart Macnutt, (b 1880, Barnet, Herts) who was in Somerset, England by 1901 - and why they went/came back. A patent application suggests they were in Melbourne in 1893/4.

Thanks very much for all this; I think the Macnutts life in Australia is now as complete as I need it.

George really is an unusual man. He started life as a Baptist minister in Canada, and his subsequent travels took him to Ireland, the USA, Brazil. Even when he was in the UK he lived in Hertfordshire, Sussex, the Isle of Wight, Surrey and London. He clearly couldn't bear to stay anywhere too long.

Actually, George Augustus MacNutt was a doctor first, then an ANGLICAN priest who convert to become a Baptist.   As an Anglican priest he served as curate at Trinity Church, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada 1862-1866, when he was publicly rebaptized at a local Baptist church and, consequently, prohibited by the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Fredericton.   It is somewhat ironic, then, that three of his sons were later ordained in and served the Anglican Church.   Does anyone know of a picture of George Augustus MacNutt?   We are working on collecting pictures and basic biographical information on the clergy who have served in the Anglican Diocese of Fredericton (which encompasses the whole of the province of New Brunswick, Canada)
