If you can't find them try.....

looking in Iceland! Ancestry has 95 entries for 1891 where birthplace is Iceland. Except that it isn't if you see what I mean. The other years are no better either. No wonder i can't find half my family if the transcriptions are that good :)

What about Ireland? Any rootschatters with experience of that as a mistranscription?
I am hoping this is so as I am looking for someone born on the Island of Saint Helena, who is nowhere to be found after 1851

Have you looked in St. Helen's, Lancs.?  It sounds suitably distant from Saint Helena to be possible!

don't forget to check for incomplete trancriptions. Do a check for the first 2 or 3 letters of the surname. I found my GGGrandfather Earley who was transcribed as Ea*
I had been looking for weeks
Whitchurch, Westminster / Buckinghamshire
Cooper,     Westminster
Pollard     Surrey
Earley,  Holborn London
Bruce,  London
Kangeisser  London
Lawlor, Widnes Lancashire
Hagan   Widnes Lancashire

All Census Lookups are are Crown Copyright, National Archives for academic and non-commercial research purposes only, I support copyright, a Wife, 2x children  a dobie, 2 x cats, a Tawny owl. and several mice if the drop

Hi, Jill,
I have already caught one St  Helens, Lancs for another member of the family. Understandable, I started off thinking that Saint Helena was the mistranscription.

I have tried all sorts of combinations with the names, but nothing comes up.
Maybe it will pop into view one day when I am looking for something else!
