Ernest Ralph Sherratt and his sister Millicent Adeline
« on: Tuesday 29 November 11 12:57 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find what happen to Ralph Ernest Sherratt born 1885 Manchester I can trace him in the 1891 census as being in Stoke upon Trent, in the 1901 census as being in Hanley. then on 17/3/1907 he arrived in New York on the Campania with the destination of Pelee Island but can't find him any further

His sister Millicent Adeline Sherratt was born 1889 Manchester I can trace her in the 1891 census as being in Stoke upon Trent and 1901 census as a pupil in Birkdale Lancashire, she then marries in 1919 in Nantwich to Walter Cecil Betts, they have a child Edna who was born and died in 1922, her husband then dies in 1930 Stafford. I can't find Millicent again in the english records either her re-marriage or death, I wonder if she went to USA?Canada to visit her brother Ernest.

I would be grateful for any help

On the original landing manifest for Ernest it is overwritten with  'Hospital' and stamped 'Non-immigrant alien' which would suggest that he wasn't expected to be staying there.

I'll keep looking!

Ah I understand, Pelee Island is in Canada, so just passing through.

Have checked the 1911 Canada census for Pelee Island, couldn't spot him, but don't have an indexed access so I might have missed him...

National Probate Calendar
BETT, Walter Cecil - of 27 Meyrick Rd, Stafford, died 13 January 1930 at the Infirmary, Stafford.
Administration to Millicent ALICE Bett, widow

The death of a Millicent ADA Bett was registered in Stafford Jul-Sep 1971, but her birth date was 20 Dec 1895

Are you sure that your Millicent married Walter Bett?  There was a Millicent Alice Sherratt whose birth was registered Jan-Mar 1896 in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire.  It looks to me as though this was the Millicent who married Walter Bett??

Hi
I found Millicent Sherratt marriage to Walter Bett on ancestry as follows oct-dec 1919 Nantwich Vol 8a Page 846, I saw the Millicent ALICE Bett on the probate calendar and assumed rightly or wrongly that it was Millicent Adeline especially after finding her marriage.

But the 1919 marriage in Nantwich just says Millicent A Sherratt.  I may be wrong, but I don't think it's your Millicent.  However, that doesn't help at all in finding what happened to them.  have you found their mother's death?  I'm having trouble finding that too!  Dazey
