General Query on US Searching

 I am researching two related  families who  emmigrated from Ireland to Manhatten in 1908/1911.
Thanks to the efforts of kind rootschatters, I am pretty sure I have now found the families. There are children born 1920-30, so hopefully, some of these may still be alive, or at least their families. My question is short of looking for searches on various people one at a time: http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/death.shtml
which could prove prohibitive, - very common names-  is there any other way, ie websites to post on in the US, organizations etc?
Also  are parish records available for NYC 1908-1940 anywhere. At present all I have is the 1920/1930 US census and  have ordered the two marriage certs, but not sure how to proceed with the children.

I would welcome any advice or inspiration, as there is a relative who is anxious to find out what happened to them after contact was lost during WW2.
I am aware that it is not appropriate to discuss living people here.

The 1940 Census comes out in April, 2012, so that may give you more information to point you in the right direction.

There are some New York vital records on www.familysearch.org, but they're not comprehensive for everyone who was born/married/died for those times.

You can search the microfilmed records that are available through Family History Centers on
https://www.familysearch.org/#form=catalog  They do have some Catholic Church records microfilmed.

As for parish records in New York City: Any information you have on individual parishes that your Boyds might have belonged to will be helpful in finding records. If not, you can search for a parish by its address, relative to where your Boyd's lived. Bear in mind that some parishes may have closed or been consolidated.

The Archdiocese of New York covers Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and northern suburbs in Westchester County. The Diocese of Brooklyn covers Brooklyn and Queens.

For info on records: On the home page menu, click on ABOUT. Then scroll down and click on Records. You'll be taken to a page that has general info on records (each parish keeps its own) and a link to a list of parishes and their addresses. Some parishes seem to have websites.

If you need records from Queens or Brooklyn, the Diocese of Brooklyn is at http://www.dioceseofbrooklyn.org/ You have to search parishes by zip code (postal code). You can find out the zip code by searching the address on Google or Bing.
