Isaac Parsons Stalbridge Dorset
« on: Monday 05 December 11 19:23 GMT (UK) »
I have gone back with some degree of certainty as far as Isaac Parsons who married Mary Bazely in 1797. What I am not sure about is whether his parents were William Rogers Parsons/Hannah Arney or Stephen Parsons/Jane?
Both had sons Isaac and both were born 1780. :-\
Can anyone please suggest a way forward or offer any further info.
Thanks

Well, the simple answer from me is, no, I don't know where you go from here, apart from contacting Sue Powell, OPC for Stalbridge (*) and asking her if there are any clues to be gleaned from elsewhere. I take it the marriage certificate doesn't have the groom's father as a witness, or any other clue?

By the way, I wondered if Jane's maiden name might be Miller since they called a son Richard Miller Parsons, but I can't see any record of a marriage (in fact I can't really see anything for Stephen Parsons at all apart from a 1750 birth).

My suggestion is to try to establish whether the fathers of the two Isaacs were closely related (brothers?), and thus get round the problem by ignoring it whilst preserving the male line of descent. Of course that way you only get half the story right, but that is better than none of it. Keep thorough notes of what you have done in case further conclusive information appears.

What did Isaac/Mary name their Children?
Usually the 1st Son would be named after Isaacs Father.

Trish :)

EDIT, Have found at Stalbridge to Isaac/Mary;
ELIZA 26 June 1801
ANN 02 February 1806
SAMUEL 1811 (no exact date)
MESHECK 29 May 1814
MARTHA 05 January 1817
(Source Familysearch.Org)

Do you have any others born to them?
Also if you are taking Isaacs DOB from the 1841 Census it may be off by a couple of years due to rounding of ages on the 1841.
Do you have his Daeth Cert to confirm age or Burial info?
If he was born c 1780 he would only be 16/17 if he Married 1797.

Thanks to all for the information so far gathered.
re Trish1120 my only record from the Parish Registers (which my brother researched some 25 years ago) shows a son Harry, born 1802 to Isaac and Mary.  I think I need another trip to Dorchester now that I have some more leads.

Hi,

I've found a marriage date of 4 Sep 1801 for Isaac Parsons and Mary Beasley (Bazeley) at Stalbridge.  Witnesses were William Watts and Sophia Hamblin.        :-\

Since my original post I have made telephone/e-mail contact with two cousins (neither of whom I have met) and both of whom, independently, have been researching the Isaac line. We have gone back to 1707 to John Parsons but there is some discrepancy with the name of his mother.
I have Ann Kimber  , my cousin has Edith Norman.

On another side of the tree I have a Temperance Kimber who married Elias Greenstock (1814) (Stalbridge) whose grand daughter Emma Jane married Frederick parsons , my great grandfather.

Any information regarding "Kimber" or "Kember" would be helpful, as the three of us are contemplating a "meet" in May to compare notes.

Thanks
