place name in Kilmartin
« on: Wednesday 07 December 11 22:26 GMT (UK) »
I read the attached fragment from the Kilmartin OPR for 22 Oct 1777 as:

Octr 22d-
---tian Daughter lawful to John MacIntyre in Tiberlich and Flory MacKay his spouse was baptized

I have searched for Tiberlich and Giberlich and variations, but I'm not having any luck.  Do any of you folks have a better idea?

If you go to the National Library of Scotland map website you will find Roy's military map of Scotland from the 1750s. You identify the position on a more modern map and it then converts it to Roy. It is very good for small places in the highlands.

Graham.

I think you'll find it's Tibertich.  Just about 3 miles North of Kilmartin on the A816.
Only recognised it as I was in the area a few months ago.

I found it in Scotland's Places.  Remind me to cross my "tees".  I can't tell you how many times the lack of a crossbar has confused me!

And you were actually there!  It appears microscopic on the map.

Thanks.

Just checking back on my photos.  Never actually took any around Tibertich.  However, here's a couple I took in Kilmatin village - one of the main street and another of Kilmartin Church.  I was there on 20th Sept this year.

And the sun was shining?  Very nice photos.  Thank you so much, Dave!

It's a bit in the distance, but this is the best photo I can find of Tibertich.

Tropiconsul.  Yep, the sun WAS shining that day.  Hot enough that I just HAD to sit, for about an hour, in the beer garden across the road from where the pic was taken.  Only had a couple of haufs and a cider.

I had a chauffeure that day so it was allowed.  Thanks 'prophetess'.

Hi Don, welcome to RC.  Nice find.  I use Geograph often but it never crossed my mind to look this time.  It is a great site.  I've posted a couple of pics on it myself.  However, it's hard to find a grid that someone hasn't pictured before.  Brilliant idea to eventually have a pic of every location in UK, albeit ambitious.

Enjoy RC.

Dave

(excuse the spelling of chauffeure - can't be bothered spellchecking but I know it doesn't look correct.)
