Where did you get that info? Was it 1901 census?
If so what age was he, where was he born, and who was he living with then?

If not, then what was the source of the info?

The  scant information about him, is in the 1901 Census, he was living at Padley Manor Farm, Grindleford with his family, near to Fox House.

Cant see him (can see 2 Benj Rowarths, but not at a Padley Manor Farm) in 1901

PLease can you give the ref?
Or better still, all the info, so I dont have to look it up to find it!

Cant look for anything else about him till we know what you have already, and without a few vital things like when and where he was born (which 1901 will tell you) and who his "family" were, we will be in danger of spending time finding what you already know, or wasting time looking at the wrong guy.

It really does help (and save several posts) if you give ALL the info you have when asking for help.

Have found a "Nether Padley Farm" on the 1901 Census (RG13  3268  71  14) - occupied by the Crossland family. Am thinking this might be Padley Manor Farm?

As posted by lizdb there are benjamin rowarths in the area but they don't "fit" your description.

regards

Thanks for the information. I have  a Mary Alice Crossland as a relative (nee Rowarth born at Thornhill). Didn't know they lived at Nether Padley.
I have found a Benjamin Rowarth b. 1828? at Thornhill. Nr. Hope and another Benjamin Rowarth b.1884 Hope Woodland? But no further information on them.

Do you have access to the 1911 Census? Can't post details but you will find a Benjamin at

RG14   21260   78   1265   440   2   16   8

Doesn't wholly "fit" the info you've given but is a farmworker and in the area.

The info you have given about Benjamin - is this family legend/lore or does it have some sound basis? From where did you get your original 1901 Census about Benjamin?

The information which I have given was taken from notes passed through various members of the family.

In that case it is probably best to start from scratch, with what you do know about the family and work back carefully one step at a time, confirming each step from as many angles as possible before moving on.

When (if) you reach this Benj. Rowarth in your tree again, then do come back with the info as to when and how he fits in - with some dates - and we can look again.
