Josee, I have just had a thought but parhaps it is too late. If you are going to phone Technical Support from the UK you need to phone after 3pm our time as you will be speaking to someone in Utah and they don't start work until 3pm our time. It can be quite busy at weekends but if you can phone during the week you should get through without having to wait. Having said that I got through very quickly on New Years Eve.

All the best.

Judesman.

May I ask a dumb question please?

My tree is not on Ancestry or the net anywhere .  If I install FTM 2012 to my laptop will I get trouble or will it just replace the 2010 there now?

If you install FTM 2012 it doesn't replace the 2010 version but will run alongside it. However, just to be awkward, it will convert the FTM 2010 files into 2012 files that won't run on the 2010 version. Before installing 2012, I would take a backup of the 2010 files to CD or USB so that if it does all go pear shaped, you've got a working version to go back to. I had 2010, 2011 and 2012 all installed alongside each other without any problems. (I use the new version to pay for my Ancestry subs.)
It doesn't matter if you don't have an online family tree already, but when installing, you get the option to choose whether you want to upload and link your tree to Ancestry. Apart from the (flawed) Tree Sync feature, there's not much difference between FTM 2010 and 2012, just a few tweaks here and there.

Thanks Braindead.  That's reassuring.

Will  backup to usb etc before installing.  I don't wish to put the tree onine- have always checked the no box.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Charlotte,  I am not an expert but I upgraded from FTM 2011 to 2012 without any problems. The current issues seem to be with the Sync facility and as you do not have a tree on Ancestry I don't think you will have any problems.

Well that didn't last long, another Sync error message and I have had to remove the tree again and download a new tree from Ancestry.  This is not good enough!

Hello Josee. Yes I have the same problem, sometimes when I open FTM it does not connect to the internet.  That is why you cannot see your invitees.  If you close FTM and re-open it that should work. You can check that your invitees are still there in Ancestry. Also sometimes when you open FTM it can take a while to connect.

When Tech Support are back from hols please consider my earlier post about phoning after 3 pm (UK).

I am going to email a contact in Utah with a snip from my Events Log as these Sync errors appear to be registered
there.

I'm sorry you have problems but I don't think we are  alone.
