Hi Fredy,
As you don't have your country of residence on your profile, I have no idea where in the world you are living.

However, if you click on my username (deeiluka) you would see that I live in South Australia, so when I posted my last reply to you, it was the middle of the day. It's very handy to be able to do that when Rootschatters live in so many places around the world.  ;)   :D

I'm about to send you a Personal Message.

G'day Fredy,
I have only just discovered this site. My name is Helen and Luke Holman was my g g grandfather as well. My mum was Gwenyth, she was the doctor. The Taringa link is correct, mum was born there. I do have some old family photos, a few of which I have no idea of which side of the family they are from, ? Wadeson/Innes or Sibthorpe/Bailey  I also have a copy of newspaper tributes to both George Richard and his father Robert Hudson.  I never met my grandfather or my Uncle Jack, but knew Nana and Aunt Beet.  My mother was quite an intrepid traveller for her time and after returning from Cardiff, she worked back in Adelaide for about a year, then she applied and was accepted for a job in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea. This is where she met my father and where I was born.  I see in your post that you talk about a book being edited, I would be most interested in purchasing a copy. I am not very tech savvy but will attempt to attach the newspaper articles mentioned.  Would love to share some more family history.
Cheers Helen

Welcome to Rootschat, Helen!   :D
I'm so glad you found this thread.

I'm in contact with Fredy via Skype so will let him know that you have posted on Rootschat.

I have sent him all the information that I have from my research, and also scans of the old documents.

However I still have the originals, and would be very happy to let you have them as you are a direct descendant of George Richard Sibthorpe.

If you post a couple more messages on this thread, then we can use the personal message system, and exchange personal information that we mustn't put on the public part of this site.

Hi Helen

Wonderful that you found this site!
I agree that your mum was a groundbreaker. Upon seeing the reports of her various degrees and appointments in the newspapers, I was impressed. Glad that someone can verify the spelling of her first name - I think that the newspapers reported it haphazardly, making searches terribly difficult.

There are a couple of hits on the National Archives of Australia site and, if I remember correctly (always a worry), there is a letter from her in Rabaul commenting on the poor conditions there and possibly seeking governmental assistance.

I'll try to send you a personal message.
cheers
Eggd.
