Aha!

We have found a family tree which has Charles William Nicholls as the son of William Grey Nicholls and Annie Sheehy - So William Grey Nicholls married twice, If I'm reading the tree correctly?

He had a son, George Mataia, with first wife Rihitoto Mataia.

****

Some relatives believe that this 'unknown man' standing at far right is William Nicholls Senior - Does anyone have any tips as to how we might identify him?

His hat looks Scottish to me!   :P

can you send me a rough copy of that tree  ?

The guy in the photo looks a little young, but the Firth and Matamata connections ring a bell !

Will do...

First time I've heard of the Firth name, how did you hear about it Mk2?

BTW those 'helmets' (or whatever they are) are amazing!  :D

Hi

I can't remember if this has come up at all;

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=BOPT18830609.2.8.2&srpos=7&e=-------100--1----2%22whakaawa%22--

Are these the siblings/family of Whakaawa?

"Te Kutaroa (Matakana)

Moananui Wharenui

Mariana Makehu
Winika Hohepa
Pire Moananui
Himi Nikora
Huhana Whakaawa
Me etehi atu

Kei te Mapi nga rohe"

As the name Winika Hohepa rings a bell for some reason...
