Hi Jack
I've had a good read and recheck - sorry no Paines.

The book also lists Quaker surnames in the area - no Paines.
School roll 1786 - 1886 - no Paines.

Hello Ann-Marie
I am looking for a Shaw family that lived in and around Mount-Mellick Ireland.
A family member mentioned that they may have been Quaker's.
Would it be possible for you to check your book for such a family.
The line goes Joesph Born Dublin 1640
George Born 1707 Dublin married Mountmellick to Esther Neale 1730
Samuel Born 1747 Mountmellick married Mayboro to Dinah White 1775
George Born 1776 Mountmellick married Mountmellick to Margaret Shannon 1797
George was also married to Margaret Bloomer in Mountrath .
He then immigrated to Canada in 1821. Whatever help will be greatly appreciated.
Delton

Hello Ann-Marie
Thank You!
Elizabeth,Samuel and Margaret are my ancestors. When George emigrated to Canada in 1821 he left
Elizabeth and Samuel behind. He had been expelled from the Quaker's for joining the Britsh Army. He took Margaret with him. He also took his daughter Dinah, son Joesph and young son George whom I am down threw. We believe but are not sure he may have brought his second wife Margaret Shannon with him as well. Did children always start Quaker school when they were 9? Are there records of their parents?
When did the Quarker's begin in this area? Are they still there?
Sorry for all the questions but it's been a long time since I have been able to find any new information.
Best Regards
Delton

Hi Delton

I am really sorry the book doesn't mention parents nor any other Shaws.  It lists Quaker surnames - and Shaw is in the list but no detail about the Shaws.

There are some websites:

http://www.mountmellick.net/

http://www.irishmidlandsancestry.com/

Which give detail about the Quakers in Mountmellick but not sure if they have details about your family - sorry!

Hopefully someone else can help you?

Happy hunting!!  ;D

The Shaw family are found in Rosenallis Church of Ireland (aka Oregan) Parish - which is now united with Mountmellick and Coolbanagher parishes.

Good wishes,
