John and Mary Ann Freeman
« on: Tuesday 03 January 12 00:10 GMT (UK) »
Dear All
Does anyone have any info they can give me on John and Mary Ann Freeman.  He was born in Brooke, Rutland, and she was born in Langham, Rutland, both ca. 1811.  I have found them on censuses until 1861 and then they disappear.  I can't find them on the National Burial Index.  He was a grazier/cattle dealer.  I should be grateful for anything.  Thank you.

Hi Derby girl,

I have records up to 1812 so unless there was another John Freeman baptised around this time I think this is John's Baptism:

12 Nov 1809, John Freeman, S/O  William/Mary,  Brooke.

Do you know Mary Ann's maiden name? There were quite a few Mary Ann's baptised in Langham around this time.

Dear Jadzia
Thank you very much for your help.  No, am afraid I don't have her maiden name.  From the 1851 Census I have his parents as William Freeman born ca 1784, Ag Lab, married to Mary, from Glasben.  But have a question mark against these as I haven't really substantiated them.  I have Mary Ann, born ca 1812, Langham.
It is really good of you to help me.
Regards
Derby Girl.

Hi Derby girl,

I have checked my Rutland records and have the following marriage... there were no others that I could see for the correct time frame:

17 Jun 1805, William Freeman, B-groom parish/notes: Brook, Labourer,  Mary Burdett, Brides parish: OTP, Banns, In Glaston. (John's parents)

The 1851  census (If I am looking at the correct one) shows William was born in Lyddington but he and Mary were living in Brooke at the time of the census.

Here is the baptism that I think may possibly be Williams:

15 Oct 1780, William Freeman, S/O William/Esther,  Lyddington.

Dear Jadzia
Thank you so much for your help.
Yes, I think it looks pretty plausible.  Does this mean that Mary Burdett was a widow when she married William, I wonder - hence the change of name.
Brilliant, thankyou.

I have just had a senior moment and confused myself  ???....two many people with the same name  ::). Something is not adding up here...I'll have a look and get back to you....

Edit:- I have removed the bit that doesn't add up from my above post  :-[

I’m just going to re-type what I have found so far, so I don't confuse everyone:

John’s Baptism:

12 Nov 1809, John Freeman, S/O William/Mary, Brooke.

John’s parents marriage:

17 Jun 1805, William Freeman, B-groom parish/notes: Brook, Labourer, Mary Burdett, Brides parish: OTP, Banns, In Glaston.

Possibly John's dad's baptism:

15 Oct 1780, William Freeman, S/O William/Esther,  Lyddington.

I thought I had Mary's (John's wife) baptism but I don't think it was correct. My records only go up to 1812 so I don’t have John and Mary Ann’s marriage as it would have been after 1812. So we need to find John and Mary's marriage to get her maiden name....then I will be able to find Mary's baptism.
