looking for a marriage

Hi,

Is it possible to find a marriage without knowing where or when they married?!

My Great Aunt Marie SNELL born c1888/9 lived St Pancras in 1891 she married a Simon Mayer  . I don't know where to start... was it normal to get married in the Brides local church?
I have a pic of their young son age around 4/5 in Buenos Aires with a note they left Waterloo 15 oct 1920 ... so guessit was before then, wonder if that was after the boys birth?

Any suggestions where i start?

elcome to rootschat.

it is certainly possible to search for a marriage without knowing the parish or civil district and a rough idea of a date.

I would start on free bmd website to see if there is a marriage that looks like a possible for Aunt Snell.

I would like to just add ;D ;D ;D your aunt is going to be a very young bride if she was born in 1888 and married three years later in 1891 :P :P Did you have a bit of a typo and mean 1918?

 ;) 1891 is a reference to her address in the census!!, sorry should have been a full stop there somewhere got carried away in my excitement! Unfortunately i havent turned up anything yet that gives me an idea of date of marriage except the assumption it was prior to the birth of her son around 1920~!

Would it have been normal top marry in her parish or his?

it was often the brides parish for the wedding to take place - but not always. Are you sure they got married in the UK?

Sadly not not 100% sure! I am trying to find more on her husband and hoped I may find more info that way?

I can't see a marriage- nor can I see her in St Pancras in 1891?

Can you give more info please,who were her parents?

Do you have the 1891 census ref?

Are you sure that her name was Marie Snell?  ;D

 her Name is Marie Alicia Snell dob c 1888
mother Alice Snell
Father William Henry Snell
1891 ref RG 12 132; writing is appalling!

1901 much clearer ref RG13 149

Miss Marie Snell left Southampton on 16 October 1920  bound for Buenos Aires,she was 32.
She was travelling alone and had no occupation.

Looks like she met and married Simon whilst there then?
