Hi Lance

Nothing at all showing for this Jane or parents  :-\ Can't see her birth entry (or siblings) to those parents. Wastie is a fairly rare name.

What other info do you have for her?

I am very sorry, the transcribed record was wrong. Should have read, Jane Gilles Hastie, born 1872 At Inveresk, East Lothian. Parents Robert & Ellen. Near Musselburgh golf course.

Hastie makes much more sense  ;) I'm going to transfer over your post to the East Lothian board as much of the history seems to be there.

Not sure how much you have already and what exactly you are looking to fill out....

Do you have the marriage details of Robert Hastie and Helen Durie on 25 Nov. 1870 in Haddington, East Lothian? The image of this is available to view on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and would let you confirm Robert and Helen's parents' names and work back a further generation.

Jane Gillies Hastie's birth you have on 2 Nov. 1871 in Inveresk And Musselburgh, Midlothian. Another sister shows on IGI index, Mary Henderson Hastie b. 1 Oct. 1873 Duddingston, Midlothian.

1881 census entry for the family:

Robert Hastie 33 Railway Platelayer, b. Dirleton, Hadding
Helen Hastie 34    Gate Keeper b. Morham, Hadding
Jane Hastie 9
Mary Hastie 7
William Hastie 5
David Hastie 5 Months
Jane Durian 80, mother in law b. Haddington, Haddington

Address: East Mains Rail Cottage, Pencaitland, East Lothian

The 1891 censuses shows a Jeanie Gillie Hastie, 19, working at the Clark household as a general servant in Thornbank House, Ormiston, East Lothian.

This has background info on Helen Durie http://johndurie.name/people/surnames/durie/durie_helen_1846/

If you click on the bottom links (1851/61 censuses) you can see more relating to Helen Durie's family.

Many thanks. I am working backwards from Jane's marriage to Michael Manders, in Canada.
I am also looking for Manders in Scotland, that came from Ireland, or Lancashire and were shoe makers.
Appreciate your help.

There are some well documented trees on A/try for Jane, from what I can see.

She left Scotland with her mother and sister, arriving in Canada on 2 May 1911 (you would need to double check on Scotlands People for her 1911 entry (2 April was the census date that year) as this is the only place it is currently available). Jane married Michael on 30 Dec 1911?

Can't easily see her in the 1901 census, maybe an error in the way she has been transcribed?

Looks like you have already most of the family links for the Manders? Michael's parents Michael and Sarah (Gee) from Ireland, living in Cheshire/Lancashire in later years where Michael himself was born in  1879. Michael and wife Sarah show in the 1871 census in Glasgow with a Hugh Manders showing as a boarder (likely why you are asking about possible Scottish connections on that line?).
