Florence would love to be repaired & dated
« on: Sunday 08 January 12 20:26 GMT (UK) »
If anyone could repair this photo of my grandmother, I'd be very grateful. I've tried to do it myself but it looks a bit botched so I'm deferring to the talented people here.

She was born in 1887 and I think the photo might have been taken when she was 21 but if anyone can date the photo from clothing etc (I don't have the original), that would be a bonus.

Wow, look at that wristwatch!  The daters may be able to pin it down to year, but it certainly looks like 1905-1910

Thanks for the reply!

We still have the watch casing - what do you know about that kind of watch? Would it originally have been on a chain and then set in a strap?

Apparently in WW1 soldiers attached pocket watches to their wrists with a cupped leather band - which is what her watch looks like to me.

On a recent thread, someone commented that the fashion for wristwatches started with women, and then moved to men later.
