Marriage look-up Robert BURNSIDE - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 09 January 12 15:26 GMT (UK) »
Could someone kindly do a look-up for the marriage of Robert Burnside, born Whitby about 1816?  I'm after his wifes surname please. Her name is Eliza also born Whitby, and her birth year varies on census from 1813 - 1815. Their daughter Hannah was born 1833 so presume marriage is round about that time?

I have them on all census's up to 1881, where he is a widower

Thanks
 annie

Hi, not sure if you have seen it, or if it's of any use, but there is a family tree on ancestry that has a Robert Burnside born Whitby married to an Eliza Cockerill - no records attached

Using Eliza Cockerill as a search on Familysearch brings up a marriage that maybe of interest of Eliza to Robert Bonsides on 9/6/1835 in Whitby. Would love to see the original record for this to see if it is a possible, worth further research?

Eliza Cockerill would appear from familysearch to have been born on 21/10/1812 (baptised 29/10/1812) in Whitby parent Sarah Cockerill.

Hope it helps and apologies if I'm totally on the wrong track.
Kev.

Kev / shipwright,
thank you both so much for this. I hadn't seen that Kev - don't have a subscription to Ancestry so cant view others trees or contact them  :(   though I still update my tree on there.

Their first daughter was called Hannah - I wonder if she could be named after the witness ( married sister of one of them? ) or maybe Roberts mother? I have Hannah born about 1833, but that is calculated from census info. I suppose they could have married later.
I have their children Hannah 1833, Mary 1836(?) Elizabeth Jane 1837 (my g grandmother) Maria 1839, Robert John 1847, Sarah 1849

the marriage of Robert to Alice Charlton could be my Robert's father re-marrying? mind you, that would mean his mother was Alice,so you'd think  one of the children would be named after her.
what a shame there are no ages on the marriage record!

thanks again

annie

Hello again,

Just had another look on Familysearch and it's getting a little confusing - isn't it always, my wife is also researching this area for a branch of her family and it gets equally confusing - have not been able to find a baptism record for Robert in around 1815.

there are baptism records for the following all in Whitby, parents Robert & Eliza (apologies if you have the dates already)
Mary 28/11/1835
Elizabeth Jane 26/9/1837
Maria 6/5/1839
Robert John 24/1/1847
Sarah 17/6/1849

No baptism for Hannah appears to be listed on familysearch - born before marriage & not baptised? That is if the marriage is the correct one.

Kev.

kev, many thanks  for this.

I only had a rough idea of when they were born, from census details , so these baptism dates are a real help.

Have just been through the parish register on Familysearch.  Think this is the baptism you are looklng for -

Robert Bondside 15th June 1814 Whitby son of John Bondside and Elizabeth - batch C00774-2

Hope this helps.

I have Burnsides in my Tree, so always have a look at different ones.  Name invariably spelt incorrectly.

Marriage John Burnsides & Elizabeth Stonehouse 11th June 1807 Whitby - batch M00774-4.

Also Robert had 2 sisters I found in previous batch -  Elizabeth baptised 8th August 1821 and Hannah baptised 8th July 1823.

thank very much for this Val, it does look promising, think I'll go with that.
Especially with Robert having a sister Hannah - maybe she died young and thats who his daughter is named after? Will look for her death.
I'd found the name transcribed as Barnsides but never thought about it being Bondside!

thanks again
