Hi Cathy, would I be right thinking you live in Australia? My father had a great love of books he collected some beautiful ones that I have and treasure. Maybe it was that connection that brought him and your aunt together. Before farming he was a picture restorer, but farming and gardening were in his blood, something I have inherited. He also served in the RAF , an upper gunner in bomber command, I have his flying log book.
Would you like to make this link private? I could then send you some photos.
Best wishes Humfrey.

Hi Humfrey,
I hope that all is well for you in Yorkshire. It’s a wet, rainy day here.
Yes, I do live in Australia- I came out here by ship with my family as “10 Pound Poms”.
My dad also served in the RAF.
Yes, making it a private link would be good.
Don’t know how to go about doing that though.
Thanks for the latest information.
Cathy.

Thanks for letting us know Cathy.

Humfrey, look at the 3 little round dark button below "Charolotte Rose" profile, if you click on the right one it will open up a box for you to send cathy a pm.

Sarah

Hello all,

I am new to this forum so let me quickly introduce myself: I am a PhD student in the Netherlands and have just finsihed my dissertation which is a biography on British historian Eileen Power (1889-1940). In view of having my book published, I am currently trying to sort out copyright for all the materials that I work with. This includes a caricature of Eileen Power that was drawn by Margaret Welsby (later Browne) around 1916, who was one of Power's students at Girton College Cambridge. Copyright for using this image lies with the heirs of Welsby but unfortunately the archives don't hold any information about who these people might be. I googled and came across this forum and thread about the Welsby family. I read the post by Francesr dated 20 March in which they mention that their grandmother's cousin was Meyrick Gouldsbury Browne who in 1920 married Margaret. This is the Margaret Welsby Browne that I am looking for! I am therefore hopig that either Francesr or someone else on this forum is able to tell me who the current living relative of Margaret Welsby is so that I might reach out to them and ask their permission to use the cartoon? I greatly appreciate any help anyone might be able to give me! With best wishes, Rozemarijn

Dear Rozemarijn,
Sorry not to get back to you sooner. I sent off a query (+ copy of your Rootschat post) to someone I thought might be able to help you  with the caricature copyright, but alas I haven't heard from them. I'm hoping they may contact you via Rootschat.
Meanwhile, if you would like to know more about Margaret I could send you the small amount of information I have via the private route. Eileen Power would have been proud of her.
Best wishes for your dissertation.
Kind regards,
Francesr

Dear Francesr,

Many thanks for your reply and for your help! I will wait to see if they reach out to me. I am definitely interested to learn a bit more about Margaret Welsby so I would very much appreciate reading the information you have on her.

Many thanks for your help & kind regards,
Rozemarijn
