CADWALLADER - WALLET
« on: Sunday 15 January 12 15:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I am looking for help in finding details around Lot Cadwallader.

I have records from 1841, 51, 61 census - where he appears as Wallett.

A death record from 1865 where he is Cadwallader.

He seems to have been born in about 1817 in Dawley or Old Park, but I cannot find any form of records to verify this.

He married an Elizabeth (which maybe Groome or Hand) again recorded as Cadwallader in 1840.

Lot and Elizabeth seem to have had seven children:

Isaac 1841
George 1842
John 1847
Emma 1849
Martha 1851
Henry 1853
Levi 1857

All the family are recorded as Wallett in all cenusus upto 1891.  In the 1901 all of the male family members and their children appear as Cadwallader.

The family appears to have remained in Dawley / Malinslee / Old Park throughout all of the 1800's.

If anyone can shed any light on the Cadwallader / Wallett name changes or detail around Lot and his parents I would be most grateful.

Thanks

Stuart

Thanks for the quick responses guys!!!

Gwynne,  as John was tried in 1819 and Lot was born in abt 1817, he could have been an uncle, and I guess the alias pulls together the Wallet and Cadwallader link.  Odd it was never used in the census until 1901 though.

Hi.  The John who was tried in Shropshire for murder in 1817 is presumably a relation (though I haven't been able to determine what relationship) to my 3 x great grandaddy Levi Cadwallender (or Wallet), christened Wombridge in 1782.  John and Levi were both accused together but both found Not Guilty, though reading through newspaper reports of the trial it sounds very suspicious to me!!
Levi's parents were Samuel and Mary but I have no information about them except for their children's christenings.  I don't know where Lot fits into my family tree but I'm sure he'll be there somewhere.  I'd love to be able to add him to my tree if anyone knows where the link is between him and Samuel.   :)

Hi Chardonnay!

Unfortunately, I cannot find any links between us.

If it helps you, my Wallet's became Cadwallader's in around 1850!  I cannot find out why, all I have is a sudden surname change for any children born after 1850 to the same parents.

I'd love to be able to help further, but I think we may be looking at different families - I could help you with some look-ups if you need it.
