Easy when you know how, eh?

Just remember "Less is More"!!

More information entered narrows a search, but less information can more easily find what you want!

In the case I stated, do NOT enter country, county or district!

Also, mother's maiden name only appears from July 1911 - so this trick won't work before then.

Hi.

Thanks for the tips, yes I have discovered, less is more. Never too late to learn, even for an old dog like me.

Thanks.

Hi. K Garrad.

You mentioned possible sons, b.  1952 and 1953. So far havn`t managed to find them but do you think they could be the offsprings of Harry/Henry and Margaret. A long jump from 1934 to 1953.

Thanks so much, that is the first lead I have had for this man. Will try to find more now. Was this on free BMD?.

I started with FreeBMD, but there is a problem with Margaret's reference page number! ;D
FindMyPast came to the rescue, though!

The GRO indexes actually give them different numbers Margaret is 1439 and Harry 1429 although the spouses match. (So freebmd is correct, it is the actual index page that is wrong)

You really need the marriage certificate to ensure that this is your Henry/Harry.  Although he is called Harry on census it does not mean that marriage and death would be recorded as such.  I would have expected him to have his middle name showing on the marriage if it is him.  :-\

The fathers death is in Bushey which is covered by Watford registration district
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/watford.html  the same area that the death I listed earlier is in.

Hi Rosie.

Thanks for the latest. But could you tell me how I go about ordering the cert, for the births marriages deaths. Now that I have the reg nr. it shouldn`nt be a problem I suppose. Can I do it on line. As I said before, I`m really green when it comes to English rescearch.
