Brennan of Creeslough, Donegal
« on: Thursday 19 January 12 01:06 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information on the Brennan family of Massinass townland, Creeslough, Donegal. John, Denis, Patrick. I have info back to the 1840/1850's (Griffith's Valuation). Trying to link the family back to Roscommon (family lore?). Thanks

 Hi PJ

Did John Denis and Paddy have sisters Peggy, Susan and Lettie?
 Who were their parents?

The Masiness Brennans could go back to a John who was there on the Tithes 1833

 Henry (in Creeslough)

Moderator's Note: This is the correct link-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

1901 census- 5 is the house number on enumerator's form- only 'address' will be townland:

1911 census-  2 is merely the house number on enumerator's form:

Hi, I've just come across your post by chance while Googling for info about the Brennans of Masiness, Creeslough. My Great-Great Grandfather, Edward Shiels/Sheals (various forms used over the years)  from Derryhassen (Derrycasson), Downings, Co. Donegal, had a sister Bridget who was married to a John Brennan in the Creeslough area. I have a paper trail back to the marriage of their daughter Mary to a Patrick Crossan in 1865. I have a 'feeling' that this Brennan family were located in Massiness and have a Death Cert for a Bridget Brennan (who may be my GG Grandfather's sister) for 1870 in Massiness. I have seen the Brennan name listed in both the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith Valuation  in a number of Townlands in that area. You have previously noted that the name was spelt variously as Brannon, Breanon, Brennan over the years. If you wish, you can email me at (*) as I would probably notice any reply sooner than on this site which I might infrequently view.
