how do i colour photos
« on: Monday 23 January 12 19:19 GMT (UK) »
I have uploaded loads of photos and a hate to bother people, even though they like doing it, but i would like to learn how to do it.

Is there any free sites i can use to colour my photos and such and tutorials on how to do it?

Any help would be great,

Gary

Hi Gary

Before you colour, you need to make sure that the image is thoroughly cleaned - i.e. a full restore.

Colouring emphasises any defects in the image and these are easily seen in the resulting colouring.

There are many different ways to colorize and Googling brings up some very good video tutorials. Choose the method that best suits you and the graphics programs that you have.

But learn to restore first, then learn to colour.

Hi Gary

I think The Gimp has a help section which might give you the basics. Also, again, there are various websites and video tutorials for Photo Restoration. I'm quite fond of this book as well:

Adobe Photoshop Restoration & Retouching
by Katrin Eismann

I've had it for about 6 years and I still dip into it. Although it's geared to Adobe Photoshop, it might be possible to adapt the techniques to other packages.

I first started restoring old photos in the early to mid-1990s when I was 'playing'  with graphics packages at Art School but I'm still learning new things  :D

Watch the eyes though. I have to restrict myself to 3-4 hours a day with breaks every half an hour.

P.S.

I think that there might be some evening classes etc., that cover restoration. It might be worth checking in your area. Not sure how you're placed as I think you're still at school  :-\

Do you have an Art/Photgraphy dept at school that you might be able to get help from?
