Jack SANDERS b1915 - Newton Abbot
« on: Thursday 26 January 12 23:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi
FreeBMD has the birth of a Jack Sanders (mother's surname Knill), in the June quarter of 1915 (Newton Abbot, Volume 5b, Page 157), and any further details would be very helpful.
Regards

Have you looked on freebmd for a marriage between a male Sanders and a female Knill?

When their respective christian names are found - you can then use the 1911 census to look them up to get birthyears/places etc which will help you trace their ancestry

If nothing found - you will need to buy a copy of Jack's birth cert to get his parents names

Funnily enough - there is a male Knill marriage to a female Sanders in  Barnstaple in 1914 so wrong way around

Hi CaroleW
Many thanks for your replies. Yes, the details on Jack's birth certificate will be most helpful. The 1914 marriage that you found is that of Isaac Knill (b1895), of Ilfracombe, and Annie Eva Sanders (b1893). Isaac was killed in action on June 15th, 1916, in the Battle of the Somme, and at that time, Mrs Knill was living in Church Street, Ilfracombe.

Do you know whether Jack was the eldest child or whether he had older siblings.  I can't see any other Sanders births with Knill as the mothers maiden name

I don't know whether Jack had any siblings, CaroleW, but it would be fascinating and very helpful to find out. Could Sanders be the mother's maiden name?

He could, of course, be the child of a second marriage for his mother i.e. her second marriage to a Sanders would be under her previous married name.

Thanks very much for posting the GRO index entry .jpg, CaroleW, which is most helpful. Research suggests that Jack is likely to be Jack Knill, who married May E. A. Hill, in 1940, in Barnstaple (registration district). This relates to my post of 18 January, 2012 (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,576564.0.html).
