Rose Ellen McKinty
« on: Monday 06 February 12 20:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am trying to find the birth of my ancestor, Rose Ellen McKinty. I am also looking for the birth of her husband Edward McHugh.

Rose was born circa 1855 in Maghuanmore according to the 1891 census (where she lived in Northumberland)

Edward was born circa 1845 in County Antrim.

I have found their marriage in 1875 in Larne. According to that his father is Francis McHugh and her father is John McKinty.

I really want to get further back although I am really really struggling.

thanks for any help

I think Rose Ellen's birthplace on 1891 census is Magheramore (in Ramoan civil parish, Ballycastle Poor Law Union/registration district).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Edward's father listed as Frances and Rose Ellen's father was John according to one index.

Thanks. Do you know how I go about trying to find either of their births. I have looked on a few sites but having no luck, i have no experience of Irish genealogy.

Julie

Civil registration of births started in 1864 so there won't be a birth certificate for either. However, the marriage certificate will give their residences at time of marriage and fathers' names and occupations.

Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.

Hi

Magheramore is also outside Larne which might tie up with the Marriage details.
