1881 census
Lostock Gralam,Cheshire
Abel Wood b 1852 Hartford ,Cheshire aged 29 Saltworks lab
Mary A Wood aged 26 wife
Ellen Wood aged 5
Emilia Wood aged 2

I would think the marriage of Emilia Wood should be simple to find - IF she married...probably 1890-1900

I think this is Emily in the 1901 census:

Thomas W RILEY,     Head Married 24 Agricultural Labourer Ordinary b Wincham Cheshire
Emily RILEY,  Wife F    22 b Lostock Green Cheshire
Thomas W RILEY,     Son  7 months b Lostock Green Cheshire

Although I haven't found a marriage for them.

Thank you for that information. This is all a bit odd as Abel Wood says his father is John Wood on the marriage record but actually his mother Elizabeth(1834) is single living with her parents John and Mary in 1861 and no sign of father so I am presuming he is also illegitimate aswell as Mary Ann.Mary Ann,Abels wife also says she is born in Lostock when she was born in Middlewich right through to the 1911 census although it is clearly her. I wonder if both being illegitimate  made it necessary for Abel to say he had a father in order to get married or am I wrong?I think she may have been pregnant aswell at the time she was getting married so maybe that might have made the emphasis more urgent for the groom to have a father. What a tangled web they weave!!Any more help would be grateful but thank you for all your help!!

On the 1861 census Abel is listed as grandson, so he could of used his grandfather John as his father on his marriage certificate.

On my husbands family tree we discovered his aunt had been raised by the grandparents as an adopted daughter so always thought her mum was her adopted sister!  She never got over the shock, being in her 80's at the time.  Quite sad that really.  Abel could've been in a similar position.

Google Maps has Lostock Gralam to Middlewich = 6 miles , so for Mary Ann to say she was born Lostock ?...maybe she was !! , but said Middlewich as that was the largest town that people had heard of ...I personally had never heard of Lostock Gralam ....
